The February Blog in March

So, you may notice it’s March, and my monthly commitment to a blog has lasted exactly one month.

Moving right along.

February was a month of accomplishment, travel, and new friends.

In early February I travelled to Bundaberg where I lived for quite a while in my teen years to give my first Author talk of the year at the library. About 10 people gave over their Saturday morning to listen to me talk about Battle Born and my writing journey. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. My one-hour time slot turned into nearly two with a long question and answer session. Thank you to the two Authors in the audience for keeping me on my toes. It was the first Author talk I’ve given where a dog turned up and Hank stole the show for a while.

I completed the draft of the fourth novel in the Damien Hunter series which I started on the first of January. As I like to collect statistics on my writing, it took 62 hours to write, over 26 days and came out to a bit over 97,000 words. I averaged 1530 words an hour. Basically, the same speed I write each novel, so I guess I can say I’m getting very consistent. The fourth in the series sees Damien and his team in Western Africa and the Ukraine. Another action packed and driven thriller. A pleasure to write as they always are.

The end of February ended with two interesting events. The first I became an Ambassador for BrothersNBooks the world’s coolest book club. A true honour to be amongst great people. Not sure what I’m meant to do but I’ll pick it up along the way like most good things. The second was the Cairns Writers Festival. I wasn’t on the stage this year but supported Authors from the audience. Two Authors were stand out for me, Tony Park, and Chris Hammer. Both are committed Authors who talked to the craft and their writing journey. A pleasure to listen to them speak and in person they were both happy to talk and interact with fellow Authors and their fans.

So that wraps February. Battle Born continues to grow in popularity and good reviews are coming in. The Military Thriller Book Group Facebook page admin invited me to join, and I discovered a group of dedicated readers and Authors to the genre. A pleasure. Especially when a reader found Battle Born in an airport bookstore in Hamilton, New Zealand.

As Taipan says, never on your knees.
